STATEWIDE SMALL BUSINESS PROGRAM DESIGN & MANAGEMENT
Small Business Program
Wisconsin Focus on Energy
According to ACEEE, small businesses represent 22% of the electricity usage in the U.S., but are typically underrepresented in most energy efficiency program portfolios. Lack of success in serving this market has resulted in its being termed hard-to-reach. There are definitely a number of market barriers: limited cash flow, lack of knowledge, inadequate access to technology, and limited kWh savings opportunities. Wisconsin Focus on Energy’s goal was to overcome these barriers and generate significant energy savings among the state’s small businesses.
STATEWIDE ENERGY EFFICIENCY MARKETING, EDUCATION & OUTREACH
Flex Your Power - Hispanic Campaign
California Public Utilities Commission
Initiated in 2001, Flex Your Power operated in partnership with California’s four investor owned utilities: Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), Southern California Edison (SCE), Southern California Gas Company (SCG) and San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E). The mass media campaign and outreach activities targeted all customer sectors to promote the benefits of saving energy and motivate Californians to action. To reach California’s Hispanics – almost a third of the population – Flex Your Power ads were translated into Spanish and placed in limited Spanish language media.
RESIDENTIAL ASSESSMENT AWARENESS AND EDUCATION
Fresno Regional Comprehensive Residential Retrofit Program (FRCRRP)
City of Fresno, California
At the time of this program, Fresno and the San Joaquin Valley were still reeling from the recent economic downturn. Residents were paying inordinately high energy bills, but lacked the resources to make large-scale energy efficiency retrofits. FRCRRP was built on the premise that a free HERS II rating, report and recommendations — coupled with access to local BPI-certified contractors — would give residents the tools and motivation they needed to make energy efficiency retrofits.
