Staples Energy is a licensed and registered Trade Ally with the Focus on Energy (FOE) program, with access to grant money funded by Wisconsin utility companies. This grant money is earmarked for energy efficiency upgrades to homes, businesses and other dwellings.

This program is for commercial and light industrial customers with an average monthly energy usage of 40,000 kWh or less in July and August, and nine or fewer locations. For multiple buildings on a campus, cumulative energy usage cannot exceed 40,000 kWh. According to ACEEE, small businesses represent 22% of the electricity usage in the U.S., but are typically underrepresented in most energy efficiency program portfolios. Lack of success in serving this market has resulted in its being termed hard-to-reach. There are definitely a number of market barriers: limited cash flow, lack of knowledge, inadequate access to technology, and limited kWh savings opportunities. Wisconsin Focus on Energy’s goal was to overcome these barriers and generate significant energy savings among the state’s small businesses.

Flex Your Power - Hispanic Campaign
California Public Utilities Commission

Initiated in 2001, Flex Your Power operated in partnership with California’s four investor owned utilities: Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), Southern California Edison (SCE), Southern California Gas Company (SCG) and San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E). The mass media campaign and outreach activities targeted all customer sectors to promote the benefits of saving energy and motivate Californians to action. To reach California’s Hispanics – almost a third of the population – Flex Your Power ads were translated into Spanish and placed in limited Spanish language media.

RESIDENTIAL ASSESSMENT AWARENESS AND EDUCATION

Fresno Regional Comprehensive Residential Retrofit Program (FRCRRP)
City of Fresno, California

At the time of this program, Fresno and the San Joaquin Valley were still reeling from the recent economic downturn. Residents were paying inordinately high energy bills, but lacked the resources to make large-scale energy efficiency retrofits. FRCRRP was built on the premise that a free HERS II rating, report and recommendations — coupled with access to local BPI-certified contractors — would give residents the tools and motivation they needed to make energy efficiency retrofits.
