PG&E Middle Income Direct Install Program

Staples Energy is one of the first contractors in California conducting direct installation for a Middle Income Program (MIDI).

This program is targeted to those customers whose income just exceeds the upper threshold for California’s weatherization program, but cannot afford to fund these energy efficiency improvements on their own. The program installs prescriptive measures similar to the low income program including comprehensive lighting, attic and pipe insulation, low flow showerheads and faucet aerators at no cost to the customer. Contractors also conduct a home energy audit and provide education to program participants.

Leads for this program are generated through marketing and outreach and also through the low income weatherization contractors. The contractors encounter homeowners who aren’t eligible for the LIEE program and now have the option to enroll those customers into the MIDI program for which they qualify. The program targets single family, multifamily and manufactured homes.

During the 2011 program year, Staples Energy completed energy efficiency improvements in almost 1300 homes, and we continue to expand our geographic reach.

In one year, the program saved homeowners 665.5 kW and 1,271,963 kWh.
