What Is the Multifamily Whole Building Program?

The Multifamily Whole Building Program is part of the Energy Savings Assistance Program, which provides energy-saving home improvements to qualified renters and homeowners at no charge through local, authorized contractors. Staples Energy has been a trusted contractor for the Energy Savings Assistance Program for nearly two decades, providing installation services in thousands of residences each year.

Who is eligible?

Eligible participants include income-qualified renters and owners or managers of residential buildings consisting of four or more units occupied primarily by income-qualified tenants. However, proof of income is not required if you can provide documentation proving participation in one of the following programs:

  • Bureau of Indian Affairs General Assistance
  • CalFresh Benefits
  • Healthy Families Category A & B
  • Had Start Income Eligible (Tribal Only)
  • Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
  • Medicaid/MediCal

What's the process?

Once qualification for the Energy Savings Assistance Program is verified, participants meet with an energy specialist from Staples Energy to complete an application. The energy specialist will conduct an in-unit energy assessment and Natural Gas Appliance Test (as needed) to identify which Program measures you're eligible to receive.

Once the enrollment process is complete, installation will be scheduled as close to the enrollment date as possible, often on the same day. There is no cost to the participant for these products or services.

What type of products are available?

There are dozens of energy efficient lighting, plumbing, and HVAC products available to improve the comfort and safety of your dwelling while lowering energy use. For building managers and owners, this includes measures for common areas as well.
